To facilitate operation of post office SB accounts
The Core Banking Solutions (CBS) will be rolled out in
all post offices in the Kerala Circle in a phased manner for Post Office
Savings Bank operations, the Chief Post-Master General (CPMG) said in a
statement here on Friday.
The CBS is a step towards
enhancing customer convenience through “anywhere, anytime banking,” as
all post offices get networked, enabling Post Office Savings Bank
customer to operate their accounts and avail themselves of all
account-related services from any post offices on the CBS network.
Till
date, 388 post offices in the country have been shifted to the CBS and
2.71 crore accounts have been migrated, with investments to the tune of
Rs.47,332.68 crore.
The CBS rollout in Kerala has begun with the migration of the Neyyattinkara HO in Thiruvananthapuram district on Thursday.
The Kottarakara HO in Kollam district will be migrating to the CBS early next month, the CPMG said.
About
1,000 ATMs will be provided across the country in CBS Phase I, out of
which, 56 important post office locations (including all head post
offices) in Kerala will be having ATMs.
The first of the ATMs in Kerala will be opened at Neyyattinkara, Kottarakara and Kozhikode.
All
51 head post offices in Kerala will migrate to the CBS platform in
Phase IA; 112 sub post offices in Phase 2A and the remaining 1,345 sub
post offices, including all post offices in the Lakshadweep islands, in
Phase 2 B, thus covering the entire 1,508 departmental offices, the CPMG
said.
He said that in the later stage, the core
banking service of India Post will be integrated with other banks in the
country so that all banks and post offices will be under a single link.
India
Post is also providing customers with CTS cheque books and debit cards,
for which an office has been set up in Thiruvananthapuram.
